The Beaufort County
Genealogical Society met on April 5, 2005 at the Brown Library. President Terria Baynor called the meeting
to order and welcomed 21 members and guests.
The treasurer’s report was
given and the minutes of the March anniversary supper event were read and
approved. Mary Disharoon,
correspondence secretary, read a thank you note from Marletta Childs for the
certificate she was sent that recognized her 20 years as a member of BCGS.
A letter was also read from a
Belgium resident that was interested in finding out if anyone had any
information on Walter Goddard of Washington that was killed in action on
September 1, 1918. Mr. Goddard was killed in action and is buried at Flanders
Field, a World War 1 cemetery. This
Belgium citizen is trying to catalog information on those buried in this
cemetery.
Members were also informed of
an upcoming program to be held at the Ella Mae Abbott Room of the Martin
Memorial Library on April 28, 2005. The
meeting will begin at 6:30 p.m. and the guest speaker will be Margaret Hoffman
who will speak on “Searching for the Courthouse.”
Joyner Library at East
Carolina University will be featuring an exhibit on the history of Bath, NC as
it celebrates its Tricentennial. The
kickoff for this event will be April 20, 2005 with special tours and a lecture
at 7:00 p.m. by Dr. Charles Ewen on the recent archaeology at Bath. For the next several months displays and
information will be available in the North Carolina and Special Collections
areas of the library and well as digitally at www.lib.ecu.edu/digital/
The meeting was adjourned at
7:45 p.m.
